About the Captain
"Life is better on the water, it's that simple! Over 15 years ago, I fell in love with boating. Help from experienced industry professionals and knowledgable sailors has kept me safe and has improved my performance. I am dedicated to supporting and promoting the sport. I hope to encourage new and seasoned boaters to enjoy the water safely and responsibly."
-Captain Tyler de Jong
I moved to Florida back in 2010 with the dream of living on a sailboat and learning what I thought would be a valuable skill, sailing. I spent the first five years in Tampa Bay living on and learning the ins and outs of sailboats from 24' to 45'. I bounced around jobs in the industry first working on a private sailing yacht varnishing their teak then spending a year at The Harborage Marina as a dock hand in St Petersburg and eventually making my way to John's Pass where I was the mate on a parasail boat for two summers, this was my first real introduction to power boats. I worked for an excellent captain and I picked up his best habits and combined them with the good habits from the other boaters and sailors I had spent time with on the water.
In the winter of 2015, I decided it was time to apply for my captain's license. I completed the course through Sea School in St Pete. My first job after becoming licensed was on a dolphin tour boat out of Clearwater Beach. It was a 42 passenger catamaran. I split ways after a short time and started working for myself. I aspired to pass on the knowledge I had attained to other boaters. Today I live in St Petersburg and run charters and teach lessons on my Regal powerboat full time. I hope to do so for many years to come.
